1. What is the “interface” and why is it important in the context of digital art forms? Give on example of interface from the reading.
"The interface serves as a navigational device and as translator between two parties, making each of them perceptible to the other." This is important in the context of digital art forms because different interfaces appeal to different people allowing them to choose which interfaces they want. An example of an interface is a telephone. There are plenty of different brands of cell phones people can choose to buy. Telephones have become extremely popular and people fully depend on them as a use of communication. These interfaces allows for an easier way to communicate an share digital images with each other. Having smart phones allows digital art to become more accessible.
2. Discuss how the concept of “space” has changed or expanded in response to digital mediums.
The concept of space in response to digital mediums has expanded for artists to create large scale environments such as architectural models, navigational models, construction of virtual worlds, and and distributed, networked models to allow users to become part of that network. I believe that our technology has been expanding at a tremendous rate that allows artists to create a virtual space they couldn't 20 years ago. Artists can create a virtual space that looks so realistic that we can get lost in these spaces and start to confuse them with our actual physical space.
3. How has cinema changed in the context of digital art?
Film, video, and animation will continue to become an increasing hybrid form that combines film footage with digital effects and 3D modelling. Traditionally film and videos are in the notion of realism by the recording of real events and hand drawn images. The idea of realism has changed in the context of digital art because of the use of special effects and involving nonfiction notions in our videos. With the use on digital mediums artists can make their virtual worlds come o life.
